Last year this was said about Michael Carrick on this very site and I think that it is fair to say that he has delivered. Last season, Michael Carrick led the midfield valiantly and the fruits of his labour can be seen in the results of the Premiership. Hopefully they will lead on to European glory in the coming season!

After making Alex Ferguson sit up and take note with his comments just after the close of last Premiership season, Guiseppe Rossi has continued to impress with Italy in the European Under 21 Championship this summer. Rossi was undoubtedly one of the best players on the pitch during every game featuring Italy, and indeed in the tournament. Good news on the transfer front for Manchester United fans today - Anderson has finally been given a work permit and so will be ready to start the season with the Red Devils. Anderson had previously been turned down for a permit because he has not played in 75% of Brazil’s international games in the past two years. Bearing in mind the fact that he is 19, Alex Ferguson applied on the grounds that it was unreasonable to expect this from him. The appeal was successful and we are now looking forward to seeing him in a red shirt in August!

The rumour mill is at work again! This time Manchester United have been linked with Eidur Gudjohnsen, the former Chelsea striker currently with Barcelona. He hasn’t really made it away from the Premiership and is looking to return, with the biggest club in the league at the moment. It is thought that Barca would sell him for around £8 million because he is still contracted until 2009, but he may be just the player to lead the front line in the coming season.
