The Red Devils gave a performance we all hoped from them and came away victorious from Ewood Park (as I predicted
). What was most impressive about our win was the conviction we showed and an assured look even though we were level for most of the game and only up one before the end. Louis Saha continued his impressive form as he grabbed the winner for us in the second half.
A tie that we lost 4-3 last year, it was imperative that we get a win here if we were to assure ourselves that we are championship material. It is games like these where victories are vital for a championship-winning team and I must say we are increasingly looking like it this year. Having been denied the chance to lead the table by Chelski over the last 2-3 years, I think we are relishing our stay at the top and long that may continue!
Wayne Rooney was guilty of squandering a couple of sitters in the beginning, but you couldn’t fault him for his determination. On another day, he’d have put them away (he usually does!). His miss after Friedel could only parry Saha’s shot was especially one that should have been put away.
From then on, we were lucky to be level as Rovers came close on a number of occassions themselves. But the opener did not come until the 64th minute after some excellent United build-up. O’Shea’s cross was diverted back in by Giggs at the far post and Saha was perfectly placed to slot home! A great flowing goal, much like our style of play during the game.
In the end, a hard-fought victory but one to be really proud of. March on the Reds!
