Giggs nears Appearances Landmark

When Ryan Giggs steps onto the field today against Manchester City tomorrow, he will be making his 588th appearance for this great club! Nevertheless, an amazing feat in itself … but more importantly, he will be replacing Bill Foulkes as United’s second-highest servant ever! The first one is ofcourse none other than the great Sir Bobby Charlton himself.

Fergie, for one, believes Giggs can go on and break even the great Charlton’s record for the highest number of attendances for United. Personally, I can’t see why judging by the manner he has maintained his fitness after having endless recurrences of his famous hamstring injuries. So, there is absolutely no reason why he couldn’t go on playing for 2 or 3 more years for United and become our longest serving player ever. No disrespect to the great Bobby, but I think he epitomises the club in recent times. His performances have been crucial to United’s successes of the 1990′s and they continue to provide United with the sort of skill and shrewdness required to win things.

Fergie, said, on Giggsy:

“Ryan is 71 games behind Sir Bobby and it is definitely a realistic target to reach that figure,” said Ferguson.

“Maybe he will have to tailor his game and play infield sometimes because for the last 15 years he has been up and down that touchline, which is incredible.

“I don’t think anyone else is capable of doing that for so long in the Premier League. I have seen a lot of wide players come and go during that time but he is still there.”
