The 1998/9 season was mamorable because it was the season that Manchester United won the Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League. It is the most amazing feat ever achieved by an English club and will remain so in years to come. This particular site, located at http://www.manchester.com/sport/united/treble.php has a whole board dedicated to photos of the treble winning side, featuring the Neville brothers, Giggs, Yorke and Staam amongst others! They can be used as desktops or screensavers, or can just be sent in gloating emails to your mates!

Trivia For The MUFC Fan
Did you know that Manchester United holds the record for the most comprehensive Premiership win? Their 9-0 route of Ipswich Town made it into the history books as the biggest victory/defeat in the history of the Premier League. That fixture in the 1994/5 season also broke another record - Andy Cole was the first player to score 5 goals in a match.
Amonst the other Premiership records is another Manchester United player. Ruud Van Nistlerooy made it into the history books by scoring in 8 consecutive games in the 2001/2 season. I guess the club just attracts record breakers!!!

Ferguson In The News

All Manchester United fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief… because boss Alex Ferguson has pledged to stay on as manager for at least another two years! His announcement comes as Manchester United are sitting in pole position at the top of the Premiership with just ten games to go!
Ferguson had previosuly decided to retire in 2002, but did a dramatic U-turn and decided to stay on, even though many thought that this was a grave mistake. He has proved the critics wrong. After 20 years in charge, he is stil one of the best managers ever to grace the English stage. Good luck to him - we’re just thankful that he is staying on for a while yet!

If you have never been to Old Trafford, it is an experience that you are missing out on. The atmosphere is electric, the chants loud, the crowd buzzing! You can’t guage what it is really like until you have been. However, you can learn the terrace chants! It is hard to learn what they are singing from TV because it is almost impossible to hear the words over the noise. Well, never fear, http://www.sportnetwork.net/main/s237/st49696.htm is here!
This particular link will take you to a page where several of the terrace chants, in all their glory, are listed. They are also the clean versions and so are suitable for children, with any rude words starred out! Next time you watch a Manchester United game and Rio Ferdinand has the ball or Ryan Giggs runs down the wing, you’ll know what the crowd is singing!

MUFC Fans Lead The Way
Manchester United fans are currently leading the way in the battle against Premiership ticket prices. The problem, that has been all over the news recently, stems from reports that UK fans are charged five times the price that a fan in any other country is just to support their team. The game against Fulham last weekend was at Craven Cottage where travelling Manchester United fans had to pay a massive £45 per ticket - that is without the travelling costs. Prices in this country are truly disgusting and should be brought to bear! A true fan will fork out any price, but not if his fellow fans in Europe are paying so much less! And I for one don’t blame those fans that choose to stay away as a result. The cost of living today is so high and many cannot afford it. The clubs are pricing the true fans out and the game of the masses is becoming the game of the elite!

Manchester United Logo - 1950s

Earlier I posted about the change to the Manchester United badge in the 1970s and 1980s. Well, I though it would be interesting to see what it looked like prior to then. I made some interesting findings and wanted to share them.
The Manchester Coat of Arms (above) had always been the Manchester United crest, until it was changed in the 1960s for commercial reasons. However, United continued to wear it on their Final jerseys until the 1970s. It is still on club blazers today. The Latin on the crest actually means “Wisdom and effort” and comes from the city’s rich shipping trade on the canal, with the blue bees representing industry! It is a far cry from the red devil!

Marching On In The FA Cup

Tonight saw the triumphant march of Manchester United progress one step closer to the first FA Cup Final back at Wembley. the team had been unable to beat Reading at Old Trafford but beat them 3-2 tonight thanks to 3 goals in the first six minutes. Gabriel Heinze scored the opener on two minutes and was copied by Louis Saha two minutes later. The third was scored on 6 minutes by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. This put us firmly in the driving seat and made it a tie that seemed impossible to lose.
However, goals from Kitson and Lita made the score 3-2 and promised a thrilling closing few minutes of the game. Any Reds fan was bound to be sat on the edge of their seat. The team hung on with some brilliant defending nd now marches on towards a quarter-final tie with Middlesborough. If that game is half as good as this, then I can’t wait!
