Newcastle United 5 Manchester United 0
The move for Newcastle’s first began when Beckham gave the ball away to Ginola. He danced past Gary Neville, withstood the barging of Beckham and passed to Ferdinand, whose shot was deflected for a corner. Ginola took it, Shearer outjumped the defence and Peacock headed down towards goal. Irwin scooped the ball away from beneath the bar, but, as television technology was to prove, referee Dunn rightly ruled that it had crossed the goal-line. The inevitable arguments led to Schmeichel’s booking, but, although a Cantona free kick was to float alarmingly close to Srnicek’s own bar, on the half-hour Ginola was to score a sublime second goal, and there was not a semblance of doubt about its quality or its merit. Ginola turned on the left-hand edge of the penalty box and, with his right foot, hit the ball across Schmeichel, angled and arrowed for the inside of the far post. Schmeichel almost had whiplash as he turned, startled, to see the ball go by. A few minutes later, Shearer, from the same distance, struck the base of his post. Now, with Batty ensuring that Newcastle were not beaten, as before, in the competitive area of midfield, one could positively sense the rout. However, Manchester United did not give up, and Beckham provided enough accurate ball from the right for a better finisher than Poborsky to have scored more than once. The hunger in Newcastle, each man speaking afterwards of returning the embarrassment that they felt at Wembley in the Charity Shield, would not

Hahahaahhaaha i love all these people claiming we’re not a big club. No we’re not as globally well known as we used to be because we’re not gracing Europe any more, but we still get massive crowds, and have the most passionate fans in the country. Yes i agree sometimes we’re a little bit over optimistic, but going down did us good, it got rid of the deadwood and wankers like Owen and Duff, and discovered new talent like Carroll and Ranger.

We = better than you and you know it

@1970SERB Actually we have won the FA cup, just not recently. Still our fans are the best in the country without doubt, everyone says it, including commentators. And its not just because we have one club in the city, its because they are loyal, i cant remember who did it but there was a survey & the toon fans spent the most to go to away games. AND if you watch Newcastle away, our fans almost always outsing the others.

@shearerforlife1 They did a big article in the newcastle evening chronicle about the return of rugby to newcastle. my grandad always used to go on to me that people saw football as a southeners sport when he was growing up in newcastle and that rugby was the sport of the people. Like you i hate rugby but theres no getting away from the fact that more people talk about rugby than they do football in pubs and clubs of newcastle. I work in a bar in town and all i here about is the fucking falcons!

  5. shearerforlife1 says:

A lot of people i know in newcastle are are going back to rugby. A lot of people forget that football always took a back seat to rugby in newcastle and that its only been in the last 20 yrs football has become the main force in newcastle. i cant stand the sport myself its shit.

@liamwitdre Im a Leeds fan there are only 2 other clubs i like, Newcastle and Liverpool why because there fans are great, they don’t steal clubs youth players (Chelsea), and are big clubs and dont listen to any1 who says different, any team that regually gets high attendences even at lower levels (like Leeds in League one regually 22,000+), and has competed in Champ League/ European Cup and arn’t glory supporters (Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal) are big. @1970SERB The difference is they don’t have the fans to match ours, there only a few clubs who compare to us it terms of fanbase, i mean 6-0 down and still outsinging the home crowd, liverpool, leeds, portsmouth and newcastle

I NEVER KNEW NEWCASTLE WAS SUCH A MASSIVE RUGBY CITY UNTILL I VISITED THE UK. I COULDNT BELIEVE THE AMMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT SUPPORTED THE FALCONS I THOUGHT IT WAS A FOOTBALL CITY FROM AFAR LIKE MOST PEOPLE. ITS NOT UNTILL YOU GO THERE YOU REALISE THE CITY LIVES & BREATHS RUGY AND THAT FOOTBALL COMES SECOND.

  24. newcastlelad1970 says:

@inkermanBs2 Did any one see that report skysports news that newcastle holds the biggest chelsea fanbase outside of london! what has happened to our club. You would never see another strip on anyones back when i was a kid. loads of young boys wearing chelsea, man u tops around newcastle these days..Im glad rugby is making a massive comeback to newcsatle in a way.Newcastle has always been the home of rugby.B robson was right most newcastle boys are born with a ball in their hands not their feet.
