@soooooo89 I don’t think Barca were great in the first 10 minutes. United pressed so high and caused a lot of problems. The issue was trying to keep it up for 90 minutes. I still think Xavi and Iniesta should have been man-marked. Barcelona’s philosophy is to over-flood midfield and United didn’t mark their two best midfielders – Xavi and Iniesta. If you watch over the match, EVERY goal was due to lack of pressure in the gaps between midfield and defence AND Xavi and Iniesta each got an assist.
@soooooo89 True – they are something special. With regards to Messi, he didn’t do much damage to the back four, so much as the gap between defence and midfield. In the early stages I remember seeing him drop back as far as the halfway line to pick up the ball, where he caused little damage. But again, Barcelona really punished United for lapses of concentration. The first goal, keep your eye on Evra, he just drifts infield too far and loses Pedro who is in space. The other two were long-range.
I can’t believe people are so suprised this was a fair and clean game. Barca and Manu are both clean/fair teams who play attacking football.
You only get dirty games when one team sets out to kick the shit out of the other (ie. what madrid try to do to barca)
@LightningDonkey iniesta has still a few yrs left in him and im sure there will be more players from there youth academy to fill theie boots. i dont remember messi getting frustrated. he well deserved man of the match as utd did”nt seem to have the remedy for him. he made the defence look like ametuers. i do like utd and i have always enjoyed watching them playing but if barcalona can humiliate utd and arsenal in that fashion then it proves that they are a completely different class to any team.

@soooooo89 But credit to Barcelona. They were amazing. It’s a shame that it took 2 long-range shots to settles it, but they were sensational and undoubtedly the best team I’ve ever seen play in my 20 years of living. However, I do think that Barcelona is finished when Iniesta and Xavi hang up their boots.
@soooooo89 Great game, clean and fair. Barcelona were much better than United and deserve the trophy. I don’t think United pressed Messi at all well enough. I think Fergie opted for zonal marking, because Carrick often dropped deep and closed the gaps, rather than man-mark. I personally think (and said before the game) that Xavi and Iniesta were the two key players. We needed to mark them. It worked at the beginning, where Messi got frustrated and came extremely deep to get the ball.

@LightningDonkey i guess all those players you mentioned were no match for messi. united are still a great team but i think we have seen a difference in the levels of skill in that game. it was a good game anyways thankfully.
