Henrik Larsson - The Best Loan Deal Ever

                                          

 Henrik Larsson, former Celtic and Barcelona hot shot striker, signed a three month long loan deal with Manchester United in January 2007. He is signed to Helsingborgs in Sweden, but agreed to play in the Premiership for the three months between January 2nd until March 12th because it is the Swedish league’s off season. Since he has been in England he has been a revelation, showing he same goal scoring ability that made him a star.

Larsson scored on his Old Trafford debut against Aston Villa on January 7th in the FA Cup and has also scored in the Premiership - his first goal coming against Watford on January 31st in a 4-0 win. He has been a great Manchester United player in these three short months, despite commuting between Manchester and Sweden regularly, and most fans will be sad to see him go! There is always a place for quality like that in the squad!

Henrik Larsson, the latest recruit by SAF, has admitted he could not turn down the chance to join United once they came calling. Larsson signed off on a magnificient and prolific career last year with the Champions League medal with Barca but apparently not, Fergie had other plans. The current loan spell ties Larsson to United until March but if you ask me, now that he is here … I don’t expect him to leave until the end of the season.

Here’s what he had to say on his surprise move to the Reds:

‘When I heard about this loan deal I just thought it was a chance I could not say no to,’

‘I did have opportunities to move to the Premiership when I was at Celtic but my family was settled in Glasgow, which is the reason I did not come down.

 

‘But I am 35 now, I do not think this opportunity will come around another time. I wouldn’t get the chance to join such a big club again.

 

‘I had to discuss the situation with my family but as soon as I had cleared it with them, there was no problem.’

Fergie commented:

“We know Henrik is only here for a short period but it could be the most important short period in this club’s season,” said Ferguson.

“The timing is difficult but we have to be fair to Helsingborg. We don’t want to intrude on their ambitions.

“Hopefully, by the time he does leave us, the job will have been done in terms of keeping us at the sharp end of all the competitions.”

Larsson joins United!

In a shock move, Fergie has snapped up the Swede Henrik Larsson on a three-month loan till the end of the season presumably from Helsinborg. I have to say this is a pretty shrewd piece of business by SAF, having been short of strikers ever since Solskjaer suffered that injury. More importantly, we now have a great striker at our disposal who could be an invaluable member of our squad and provide us with the necessary cover going into the new year and beyond.

He is, however, 35 years old and at the twilight of his career but you only need to look back at last year’s Champions League final when he helped set up that wonderful goal for Barcelona and not only that, he had a great season at the Nou Camp otherwise as well. It appears Fergie is no longer in the market for more strikers but I know Fergie and I take comments like this with a pinch of salt to be honest. Here’s what he had to say:

No, we won’t be going for any other strikers, We have exhausted all avenues and this, without doubt, is the best option.
