Eric Cantona - Ooh La La!

Eric Cantona is perhaps one of the most famous players in Manchester United history. He was a truly legendary player, but will be more remembered by the majority for his violent conduct rather than his capability on the field.
The French striker signed from Leeds in November 1992 for £1.2m. That season, that has started off poorly for United, saw Cantona score and set up goals for others in abundance. He made an immediate impact, helping them to win the Premiership and the double (Premiership and FA Cup) followed a year later. The 1993/4 season would have been perfect has Aston Villa not beaten the side in the League Cup final. As a result of the team’s hard work and his ability, Cantona was named PFA player of the year in 1994.
The incident that will forever be remembered for took place on 25th January 1995. Famed for his temprement as much as his on field ability, Cantona had been sent off for a disgusting tackle on Richard Shaw. He then kung fu kicked a supporte on his way to the tunnel. He was given 120 hours community service by a court for assault and banned from playing until October 1995.
Cantona was an undoubtedly great player, and you still hear his name being chanted on the terraces now, but he will forever be remembered for the most outrageous attack in English football!

Rio Ferdinand - Great Defender Or Expensive Mistake

Manchester United bought Rio Ferdinand for £29 million from Leeds United in 2002. He has since played almost 200 games for the club in all competitions, but was he really worth all that money?
Undoubtedly Ferdinand is a greatest defender with skill and the ability to save a game from the jaws of defeat with strong defending and a fearless attitude. However, he is anything but consistant and tends to have as many bad games as he does good.
Thew inflated price that United paid for Ferdinand is indicative of the ridiculous prices being paid across the board for quality players. And don’t forget to consider that he still has a good ten years left in him yet!
