The Magc That Is Paul Scholes

PScholes

Speaking of Paul Scholes, I think that it is about time we got to know our ginger midfielder a little bit better!

Scholes is Manchester through and through. Not only was he born in Salford but he has never played for another club. He began training at The Academy at the tender of age of 14 before signing a YTS contract upon leaving school in 1991. During his time in the youth team they actually won the FA Youth Cup. He was part of the soom to be first team squad with Beckham and the Neville brothers, which is one of the main reasons why Alex Ferguson bumped him up to first team duty in 1994, after just three years in the youth ranks. He actually scord twice in his full first team debut against Ipswich Town, a game that the Reds ultimately won.

Scholes soon became a regular in the side and established himself during the 1994/5 season, when he scored 5 goals in 17 appearences. However, he had to wait until 1997/8 to becaome a first team regular. Since his debut, he has won copious amounts of silverwear and is perhaps one of the most crucial players to Manchester United’s season to this day. Although retiring from the England national side, Scholes continues to play an active role for Manchester United, and hopefully will well into the future!

Scholes Ban Only 1 Game

Red Scholes

There has finally been some good news from the Champions League for Manchester United. In a game that saw Paul Scholes sent off, crowd trouble and ultimately a 2-1 defeat, there was little to celebrate about. However, it has now emerged that Schole will only face a one game ban.

Scholes was on a yellow card going into the tie and so a yellow card alone would have seen him receive a ban. However, UEFA have said that Scholes will indeed be banned for the return leg against Roma but will not be banned if United get through to the semi finals. He will, however, still be on a yellow card and so could possibly receive another ban before the final.

Yellow Card, Red Card

As Manchester United played Liverpool today, Paul Scholes was sent off for violent conduct. It was an unfair red because he was simply punching the air in frustration but unfortunately got a little too close to Xabi Alonso’s face. Although he didn’t make contact, the referee interpreted it as intent and sent him off. It was the first red card that any Manchester United player had been shown in the league this season. Ironically it came against the only other side not to have been shown a red card!

Before today, Manchester United were 6th in the fair play league, with Liverpool and Aston Villa occupying spots one and two. In total, we had been shown 41 yellow cards and no reds. Considering there was only another ten games to go, I’d say that it was pretty impressive. We may have dropped a few places after tday but fair play in football is of the utmost importance if we want to promote a clean game to the next generation.

2005/6 Season

As the 2006/7 season draws to a close and the action starts to hot up, it is no wonder that Manchester United fans are starting to get excited! Top of the league and in great form, the future could not look brighter. Last season fans hung their heads in shame because Chelsea’s lead was so astonishing and insurmountable. It made us feel like failures when it shouldn’t have. In fact, Ferguson’s team had an excellent season last year and everyone should be reminded just how well we did.

The likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs and Scholes made 17638 passes, 1219 tackles, 591 crosses, 414 dribbles, made 344 shots and scored 72 goals! Not bad considering we didn’t win the league. It’ll be insteresting to see what the stats are this time next year!

Liverpool vs. Manchester United Preview

It is time for one of the best games of the season. It is inevitable that Liverpool/Manchester United clashes are fiery to say the least, but they also usually pack a punch and a few goals to boot. It also has to be said that there is nothing better for a Man Utd fan than beating Liverpool!

Liverpool have not lost at Anfield in thirty games, which is going to be a tough record to beat, They always play better at Anfield than anywhere else. However, Manchester United have the psychological advantage after beating them earlier on in the season. It was the game in which Paul Scholes scored his 500th league goal. This illustrates just how finely balanced the game is.

As far as injuries and suspension go, none of the mjor Man Utd players are out. Everyone is fit, as yet, and eligible to play. The team is playing well and has absolutely demolished sides in their last few matches, although sitting back as they did against Reading will result in punishment here.

Whatever the team or score, we are in for a cracking match! Come on you reds!

Manchester United vs. Wigan Athletic Review

Another fantastic United display and another three points in the bag, this time against Wigan. Ronaldo seems to be in the form of his United career as everything he touches turns to gold these days! Wigan came into the game on the back of a heartbreaking loss to a Chelski side that barely deserved to beat them on their own turf so in a way they had a point to prove. But Old Trafford is certainly the last place you’d want to go to prove a point, especially when United are at their rocking best!

From the off, United looked strong and controlled the midfield. There were five changes made to the side that beat Villa the other day. But Wigan withstood the early onslaught by United and managed to go into half-time 0-0. But on came Ronaldo after the interval and changed the game almost instantly! Paul Scholes crossed into the box and found unmarked Ronaldo’s head who had no trouble putting it calmly into the back of the net to extend his amazing goal-scoring run for United. He would score another one soon after a penalty was awarded to United and although his initial effort was saved, the did not have any trouble dispatching the rebound to claim his second goal of the game.

The goals were flowing in and soon the third followed after an incisive pass from O’Shea and a flick from Rooney saw Solskjaer in plenty of space and the Norwegian excellently slotted it into the corner of the net under the advancing Kirkland.

United were now in cruise control and although they had several more chances to score, Rooney in particular, the job had been done. The only downside was their goal in injurty time when Silvestre was adjudged to have fouled David Wright in the box and the ref awarded a pen to them.
