More Titles For Red Devils

If you thought the Premiership title was the end of the season honours, then think again! This time though, it is a couple of individual players getting the honours rather than the whole team!

Ryan Giggs and Teddy Sherringham have both been awarded honours by the Queen for their services to this country. Ryan Giggs was given an OBE and Teddy Sherringham, received an MBE. There are usually some footballers receiving honours in the lists, but it is about time that these two players, who have possibly contributed more to the game than anybody else playing right now, got the recognition that they deserve!

GB Kit

Any fan of Manchester United will be familiar with the kits that the squad has worn in recent years, as well as the sponsers in all liklihood. However, how would you fair if you were asked to identify kits from the 1950s or 60s?

You can find out about ever kit ever worn by the Manchester United team on the Pride Of Manchester website. They have pictures of every kit, from those worn by the Busby Babes to George Best (like the 1960s one above) to Ryan Giggs… and some are even further back - going into the 1800s.

The site offers a shop facility too where you can buy replica shirts from most of the time periods they display. Have a look today and see if any of them take your fancy!

Giggs Ava

I covered Manchester United player avatars on  http://www.manutdonline.org/avatars.html not so long ago. Man Utd Online always has an excellent selection for use in chat rooms and on forums, but they have recently added some more to their collection.

One of the best avatars is the Giggs one featured above. He truly is a Welsh Wizard! The quality of the avatar is awesome too. If you haven’t already then you should really check out their selection. It’ll take you ages to choose just one!

The Best In The Premiership

                                                     FergieGiggs

It was announced today that Alex Ferguson had picked up the award for the Barclays Premier League Manager Of The Month and Ryan Giggs has picked up the Player Of The Month for February. These accolades are well deserved as Manchester United march on in the Premiership.

The awards are given to the best player and manager in the league every month. However, Giggs and Fferguson won their respective awards in August 2006, making this the second time this season that they brought glory to Manchester United in the same month. At least their efforts are being recognised and hopefully it will spur them on to more of the same this month.

Giggs Inches Closer To Charlton Record

                                                 RG

Ryan Giggs today played his 700th game for Manchester United at Anfield, as United picked up a commemorative victory for him, which may be followed by a commemorative Premier Lague title. He has played for the club for 16 years, as I have previously mentioned and there isn’t an honour high enough to give him for his loyalty. Other big names, Beckham for example, have left to go on to “bigger things”, but Giggs has always remained a true red. His 700th league game was just another milestone in the road. The most important one will come towards the end of next season or the beginning of the  season after. 2008 should be the year that he breaks Bobby Charlton’s appearences record.

Siry Bobby Charlton played a total of 754 games in 19 years, but the demands of English football these days will mean that Giggs could possibly do it in 17 years, if he has no injuries of course. The record is amazing, but Giggs surpssing it would be truly breathtaking!

Lille…. Again!

                                    Saha Lille

Today, Lille went to the UEFA appealing body to complain against the goal that Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs scored against them last week in their Champions League first leg match for progression to the quarter finals. They lost, again, but it is not the last we have seen of the argument.

Lille travel to Old Trafford next week for the second leg and will play under protest before taking their appeal to the court of arbitration if the do go out of the competition. Manchester United should not be worried because it is doubtful that Lille will get the ruling overturned, but it may prove to be a distraction in their quest to progress. The main problem is that if Lille are successful in overturning the decision, it may leave football wide open for many similar protests that may indefinitely suspend a season and cast doubt over the legitimacy of winners. This is a crisis that referees have brought on themselves, but could bring about the downfall of football as we know it.
